A day in the life: snow day with 6 kids

Sunday, February 1, 2026

Monday, January 26, 2026

6:45a - 7a: I slept in a little bit -three times hitting snooze! but know it's time start moving before Brandon has to leave for work (administrators don't get snow days, although he is taking a half day) and to get some stuff done before the kids wake up is always the calmest part of the day. I really do love that first cup of coffee in the blissful silence knowing that all of my babies are safely asleep.

After brushing my teeth, putting on moisturizer, and earrings and lipstick to make myself feel like a person (Hah), I stayed in my cozy jammies to start the day. I put on the coffee pot and read my daily morning update from Heather Cox Richardson to give me the current political news through historical context. Today she explained the public execution Alex Pretti and how various states and representatives are responding and legal action that has occurred in the past 24 hours. The newest killing has opened up a rift in Republican ranks....they are frustrated with DHS officials' statements that Pretti was intending a 'massacre' of federal agents in the face of videos that disprove such absurd claims. They have told Melugin (of Fox News Channel) such comments are 'catastrophic'. "[W]e are losing this war," sources say, "we are losing the base and the narrative."

I also read the post by Alex Pretti's last nursing student Jessica Hauser. "Take one step, no matter how small, to help heal our world. Through these acts, carry his light forward in his name. Let his legacy continue to heal."

7a -8a: I started the morning house chores: starting the laundry rotation for the day, feeding the kitties and Bullet (Brandon and I tag teamed it because Bullet is 17 years old which means there is always some kind of bodily fluid to clean up in the morning), cleaning the litter box, and taking down the garbage.

Then I got my planner out and started to map out the week with practices, games, and meal planning. I also write down the big tasks that need done this week: registering all the kids for their spring sports, finishing and turning in the Kindergarten registration paperwork for Red and Olive, submitting the order request to the screen printer for the 5th grade promotion party (volunteering with the PTA), and ordering the kids' valentines for their upcoming school parties. Even though my planner can feel a little overwhelming because there are A LOT of moving parts in a family of eight with four athletes and two full time working parents - my planner is the only way I can juggle it all, so I actually adore it and it is one of my most beloved possessions.

For breakfast I had black coffee with a monster cookie, half a piece of banana bread, and a string cheese. Random but all the exact tastes that I was hoping for.

8a-9:30a: While the kids are still asleep, I did some computer work. Returning emails, sending our weekly schedule to Brandon, and checking school email. I set up my classes' Schoology folders for this week, and updated the Mapa del Mundo slides that we do each Tuesday in class. This week we are going to learn about The Witch's Market in Bolivia (which goes perfectly with Sp2 reading El Ekeko novel and learning about the Alasitas festival) and next week we are going to learn about the Tepui table top mountains of Venezuela.

When Olive woke up, I gave her a snuggle and got her a string cheese (hah). She helped me put some chicken in the crockpot to prep for dinner. I also switched the laundry and let the cats back in the house. Since the rest of the kids are waking up slowly, I cut the second loaf of banana bread that I made yesterday and put it on the kitchen counter. Or they could have yogurt, or cereal for breakfast which they can get on their own.

Grateful to view a video about Rev Rob Schneck, an Evangelical minister who spent decades helping build America's religious Right who is now marching with anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis seeking redemption for what he believes was his role in delivering, "the entities that are now inflicting all of this suffering on so many people." He says, "So now I have to do the work of repair...these folks are showing more grace in accepting me than I would have ever extended to them."

9:30a- 10:30a As the kids start the day with some Thundermans (one of their current favorite shows), I refilled my coffee cup one last time and went upstairs to give Grey his first antibiotic of the day (three a day for 14 days to combat the cellulitis infection he has in his foot!). I did three loads of laundry and put new sheets on our bed and finally got dressed for the day.

The kids got up and started moving. They got dressed to go outside for awhile and ate banana bread while I tidied up the living room and got Grey some breakfast since he hopped his way downstairs not putting weight on his foot yet, and then got started on some missing assignments from when he was absent last week due to his foot. Multiple conversations with kids about paying attention to themselves and not bossing someone else around (always the argument in our house when we are all stuck at home stepping all over each other on snow days).

10:30a - 11:45a I put away some clean dishes and started filling up the farm water buckets with hot water. I helped the four little kids put their snow clothes and did a quick (horrifying) sweep of the basement where they have been throwing any and all clothes after sled-riding all over the floor. So that's where all those thick wool socks have been hiding?! I found multiple pairs of socks, two sweatshirts, and a pajama shirt. I organized random gloves and gators (neck warmers) that I found and hung up snow pants and coats. Finally, everyone was suited up so I threw in another load of laundry and then, I headed outside myself to re-shovel the sidewalks and porches.

The snow is piled way high up on the sides of the driveway, so the kids mostly played there throwing giant snowballs at each other. Gemma cleared off the trampoline and we let Bullet and the kitties out for a bathroom and hunting midday break. I got all the walkways cleared of snow and then was glad to go back inside because it is cold cold.

11:45a - 1p I heated up leftovers for the kids' for lunch. While the leftovers were warming up, I emailed my PA state senator (website > contact form), urging him to refuse to fund bill FY2026 (which would continue to fund ICE) until appropriate changes and restrictions are made as they have abused power and now murdered at least three US citizens in Minnesota (Keith Porter, Renee Good, and Alex Pretti).

Kids ate lunch with lots of noise and laughter and then Brandon came home from work. We had leftovers of kielbasa, pierogies, wings, baked sandwiches, mac&cheese, and chicken/ broccoli/ alfredo. A little mix of everything, but everyone got full without having to make anything new (and we cleaned out the fridge - yay!)

Then the kids went to the living room to color (because Grey had to color for his homework and he got everyone excited about it too). I cleaned up the kitchen, organized the canned goods that were piling up near the cupboard, and I started the dishwasher for the first run of the day. When I switched the laundry, one load was mostly towels, so I draped warm towels over the kids coloring in the living room and they all sighed in delight and simple joy (honestly - what is better than a warm towel?)

I gave Grey his second antibiotic and unwrapped his foot to see how it looks. Definitely looks like it is healing but still an open wound and just nasty - my poor babe. We had him elevate it and keep it out in the air to try to dry it out a little bit. The little kids were sent to the basement den to watch a show so that they wouldn't be jumping everywhere and bump it while it was out and vulnerable.

1p-3p I sorted another two loads of laundry and hung up Brandon and my clothes in the closet. The sorting of the socks is always something that drains my soul a little bit (LOL) but I'm glad to get it done. Brandon came up to watch me do the laundry (this is normal, he says it is weirdly satisfying to watch how I fold towels so easily, hahha) and then he asked if we wanted to lay down a little while. We snuggled up and I read half of a chapter in my book before I started to feel myself being pulled into sleepiness. So I got up!

Gemma was downstairs making pretzels on facetime with her friends Peyton and Addie while the rest of the crew was in the living room watching Mountain Monsters (a favorite!) and Grey had his foot elevated but was fast asleep.

3p-4p I caught up on my blog (finally) still stuck in 2025! I finished my Around Here Week 52 post to officially close out the blogposts from last year. While working on the blog in the living room, I enjoyed a cup of Oolong tea while eating Gemma's cinnamon pretzels with sugar sauce. GOOD GRIEF. How many is too many? She served all of us pretzels with sugar and made Brandon a caramel macchiato while we watched the crazy, spooky, hilarity of Mountain Monsters.

4p - 5p We took a 'tv break' so it got real loud, real fast. I got a peroxide/water soak ready for Grey before wrapping up his foot again. The kids played monkey in the middle in living room with stuffed animals and insane arguing over every tiny rule. Reddy had to help me empty the dishwasher and I cleaned up Gemma's giant kitchen mess (I offered to clean up since she did make 2 dozen of pretzel bites that our entire family finished off completely). Then two of the kids and I had to have a deep dive conversation about reacting to each other and how we need to come from a place of loving kindness and patience for each other. They had came to an understanding and I felt like maybe we got somewhere with it? (yeesh, siblings).

Brandon went out to the local feed store to pick up some bales of hay because we got a notice that it is supposed to get down to -25 tonight and he wants to pack the goat house and Osa's house with fresh dry hay. While he was at the feed store, I started to make the afternoon mini meal since everyone was starving, but it is way too early for actual dinner. So cheese quesadillas for all. [at this point - We found out there is going to be another snow day tomorrow - but definitely not telling the kids that yet!] I made the quesadillas and Grey did more homework, Gemma yapped over facetime with her friends upstairs, and the youngest four ran all over the house playing some game where Rusty and Violet were the horses that maybe had rabies (? there was a lot of screaming, giggling, and running).

5p - 5:45p I started to set up my Schoology pages to be ready for a Flexible Instruction day tomorrow at school. (Extreme low temps and high winds with drifting snow are in the forecast). It will be our first Flexible (Virtual) learning day of the year - so I wanted to make sure everything was as ready as possible. Our CT children are having a traditional snow day, which makes it a little bit easier for me because I will not have to manage their learning or sharing of the computer. Me and the babies would have a FID day, so they can attend the zoom lessons on my personal laptop and I can conduct my classes on my school laptop which I brought home this week for this exact anticipation with the weather forecast.

5:45-7p The littlest kids and I watched The Last Tepui on Disney+. It was so good! We laughed and were mesmerized by the climbing (?!?!) and all the science. Very cool - big recommend from us. (I found out about this documentary this morning when I was investigated Mapa del Mundo for school!)

7p-7:45p I gave Olive a bath and helped Reddy into the shower (such a blessing when kids become independent at bath time! Olive almost there, but the shower water streaming down is still scary for her- hah) While the kids played in their shower/bath, I also did a quick clean of the upstairs bathrooms.  The kids got bathed, lotioned, jammied, and hair and teeth brushed!

While I was with the littlest two. Grey played Fortnite, Gemma watched a show in her bed, the middle kids played mini hoops, and Brandon worked on dinner - Philly chicken cheesesteaks tonight with french fries!

While we waited for dinner to finish, I looked up some resources to use in my high school classes tomorrow to make it meaningful during the virtual day. I don't want to get too far off of track since we've already missed a day of school. Thankfully, youtube to the rescue and I have some archived material in my Schoology from last year at this time.

Grey came WALKING into the kitchen and it was a big deal because he has not put any pressure on his foot for over a week.

7:45p- 9p Dinner with the family and it was pretty well received (Red didn't like it) otherwise, no leftovers! All the kids squeezed around the table  and then because too many people were burping and farting, Gemma migrated to the dining table and Brandon and I sat in there too to eat (instead of standing by the counter).

Gemma and I talked about how old all the siblings will be when she is varying ages (the babies will be in third grade when she is a senior in high school and in eighth grade when she is 21!) Violet keeps complaining about her belly feeling like it is grinding each night, so we are going to try to go without any dairy tomorrow and see if that helps (?) This girl - always worrying about all the things.

I was feeling a little stressed about the Virtual day tomorrow, so I stayed at the dining table and tried to update my Schoology folders a little more before bed. I still have time in the morning to get them all done before I have to zoom - but everyone is going to want breakfast and all the things, so I tried to get ahead of the game a little bit. I added all the Zoom links for each class.

Brandon went down to do one last tuck in for the night at the farm. The houses are loaded down with fresh hay, everyone got warm water, and all chickens (but one) are in the coop. One chicken refuses to come down out of the pine tree and it is making me crazy worrying about it freezing to death.

9p-10p We tried to convince the kids to get a proper night sleep even though they knew it was a day off of school in the morning. Hah! So we let them stay up just a little longer while I helped Grey get this foot done again. He took a shower (I sorted one last load of clothes) and then we did a sterile soak (half peroxide half water), then patted it dry, and re-wrapped it with sterile gauze for the night. It does look like it is moving in the right direction of healing - still a nasty wound though. He is still hopeful to play in the basketball game on Friday night (?!)

10p-10:45p I got the little four kids in their room and beds and I layed on the floor and read some of my book but mostly tried not to fall asleep myself. Olive had one hundred requests (a drink of water, to rub her back, to go to the bathroom, to cover her up, actually don't cover her up just fix the blanket near her feet, to look for a stuffed animal, to read my book aloud) and I had to tell Red that he could come sleep in our bed as soon as Olive fell asleep (which was a fib because I knew he would fall asleep first). Rusty read some of his Shel Silverstein poetry book before bed and Violet was the first to fall asleep (like always).

10:45-10:47p Brandon already had the heated blanket on in our bed, so climbed in and fell asleep immediately.

Only to wake up around 4a with worry about all our farm animals in the frigid cold and to worry about the Virtual day for school and to worry about the wild animals in the frigid cold and to worry about Gaza and to worry about Sudan and to worry about Liam Ramos and to worry about the constitution. 4am Tab has a mind that races...so I went to the living room and sent out wishes and prayers to everyone I'm worried about and then tried to read and distract myself until I could fall back asleep. I laid there half sleeping and dreaming weird dreams until about 5:30 when I got up and started making blueberry bundt cake.

**a snow day with kids aged 15-4 years old is MUCH easier than my snowdays of past when the kids were younger. Bless you mommas out there with younger kids who have little ones climbing the literal walls on snow days. I have been there! The best piece of advice I can offer is make peace with the noise and mess. It is the only way through.

A Day in the Life: March

Sunday, April 13, 2025

Sunday, March 30, 2025

5:30a wake up with B and Olive on the couch because we were watching March Madness and then fell asleep and never made it up to bed. I sneak off the couch and head upstairs to brush my teeth and try to wake up by scrolling for fifteen minutes. It didn't work, I was actually almost falling back asleep, so I just got up.

6a. down to the kitchen to heat up yesterday's leftover coffee and start making the cake and cupcakes for Reddy's birthday party this afternoon. Happy that the chickens are producing so well because I need six eggs just for the two boxes of mix. I also start the laundry cycles and start a new pot of coffee. Then I sit in the oven chair (to hold the oven door completely shut) while blogging so that the cakes all bake properly.

7:30a. Cupcakes and cakes are out and cooling. Morning chores like dog out and food and water. Guinea pig moved outside and water. Making my list for the morning that is for the whole family to see today's checklist and finishing a little gift I have for Uch since my nephew Wells has a surgery tomorrow.

7:50a Kids are waking up and Reddy is all smiles for his party today. Olive wants a "macheet" (chocolate milk) and I make chocolate croissants and heat up leftover cheesy potatoes for breakfast. That means more sitting on the oven chair which feels like a time waste so I work on meal planning for this week (yikes, going to be a tricky one!)

Monday - chicken & gravy mashed potato bowls
Tuesday (Reddy's choice) - Sheetpan chicken fajitas and pumpkin roll for Red's birthday dessert
Wednesday - Meatball sub sammies
Thursday - crack chicken sammies
Friday - grill (burgers / hot dogs / brats) and air fryer french fries
Saturday - continue to think about (first day of trout!)

I also set up the cooled cakes and cupcakes on the platter and put strawberry jam between the cake layers are Reddy's request.

8:20a breakfast with B and the kids as we look at Reddy's baby book to laugh and smile about how sweet he was (and is!) Then Olive's hair needs a little refresh while B and Rusty clean up the living room from last night. I switch the laundry and cart up some stuff to our bedroom to get it out of the kitchen before the party to minimize party clutter (like my computer and school bag).

8:45a Get ready for Sunday school and waking up Gemma. I get dressed and do her eyebrows real quick (because it's an emergency situation over here, mom!) and it's off to Sunday school by 9:10a!

9:15a Sunday school and today the parents were asked to be there with the kids who are going to get their first Holy Communion this year. I stayed in class with Rusty and Mrs. Sotosky is so great at leading the class and had fun activities and even bread and honey to try for the communion kids. After Sunday school, the kids and I stopped at Dollar General to grab the last few things we needed for the party (paper plates, tablecloths, juice bags) and then it was home just in time to wave goodbye to the insurance adjustor who was at the house checking out our siding that got ripped off by the last storm?!

10:30a Doing all the pre-party tasks: icing cupcakes and cake, sweeping, setting up tables, vacuuming, loading the dishwasher, and starting the crockpots. B had done a bunch of stuff on the list while we were at Sunday school thankfully, so we already had a bit of a head start. He and Grey had brought up tables, done all the animal chores, and cleaned up the backyard a big. I also had to do non-party stuff like switching the laundry and responding to texts with coaches and boosters (hah) because real life don't ever stop!

1p Red's fifth birthday party at our house! B cooked hamburgers on the grill and we had baked beans and buffalo chicken dip in the crockpots. We are always blessed with people who show up with smiles and arms loaded down with goodies to share (we love and appreciate you!) Abba brought pasta salad, Mimi made no bakes, Heather brought little smokie pigs in the blankets and fruit salad, Miss Hannah brought her famous brownies, and Miss Emma brought juice bags.

Even though it sprinkled most of the time, that didn't stop the kids from jumping on the trampoline, playing spies, and visiting the animals. It was a wild and fun time for the kids and lots of yummy food and chatting for the grown ups. We sang to Reddy (5) and Mimi (87) and the kids tried to cook smores in the rain (moderate success). Everyone was sufficiently tired and soaked through by the end of the party.

5:30p Everyone had hugged goodbye and helped carry everything into the house. It was time to clean up and reset. Grey helped condense everything with the promise of a Sundowner hamburger for dinner (hah). Then he went and organized a game of indoor baseball in the living room with Reddy's new foam bat while I unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and washed the big stuff. I texted photos to the friends and family who were at the party and said thank you again.

It will be leftovers for dinner because we have so many random things left from the party and from the week in the fridge. B took Gemma to Gators soccer practice at 6p while I did a quick vacuum on all the pieces of grass that found their way into the house from wet socks during the party.

6:15p Four loads of laundry needed sorted so I could switch the laundry again. I still have at least 3 loads to do before tomorrow (that would be ideal, but we will see). B hung out to chat with me while kids came in and out to talk randomly. The boys went back outside to try out Red's new rocket launcher and I tried not to cry while matching socks (hahaha, honestly will be the end of my sanity someday). I got Olive's, Red's, and all the towels put away after sorting the clothes.

7:20p in the attic to find cleats and shin guards to see if we can assemble some kind of a season without having to buy anything else new. I also carried up St Patrick's decorations that needed put away but upon entry to the attic, I see the kids have been up there digging through bins of clothes...but that giant mess is for another day - so I choose to ignore it and dig on through the sports equipment. B went to pick up Gemma and I carried down the possible cleat options and as many shinguards as I could find (literally all mismatched which is classic and exactly how I feel about socks...so great).

7:45p I heated up leftover pizza and ate it standing up while laughing at Red who is so thrilled about his back scratcher that my dad got him (the same one my dad has). Red said, "I wish my friend Jeremiah could see my back scratcher!" and then a few minutes later, "I just love this back scratcher!" Haha, it's always the simple things that kids like the best! I asked Rusty again to show me the cleats he has for tomorrow and he showed me last year's pair size 2. I was like, "dude. what size shoe do you wear?" and he was like, "what? a 4." babes. Not going to work. So it's back up to the attic again.

8p. I found a size 5 but with socks they work for Rusty so I think we are covered enough for tomorrow's practice. I will need to order Olive some tiny cleats that actually fit but for tomorrow she's wearing 2sizes up because that's what we got. I got Queen Barb the guinea pig ready for bed (hah) and then made Grey his sundowners (hamburger, egg, mustard, cheese, chili). I reminded Rust to empty his backpack and got the rundown about practice from Gemma while she reheated some pizza for dinner.

B took the kids up to bed (Olive needed carried since she was already asleep on the couch after such a fun day!) except Violet decided she was hungry. So she heated up a leftover cream cheese chicken taco. Gem came back for a piece of cake before bed and I realized I had only two dishwasher tabs left...add that to the grocery list. And then Reddy came down wanting to take his back scratcher up to bed...him and this back scratcher?!

I fed my sourdough Celebrina and put her down for a long Springtime Snooze in the fridge until we finish spring sports season. Eeek! goodnight Celebrina, we love you. Take a rest - you earned it!

9p. B gave Bullet his old man pain medicine and I checked the laundry and realized the settings were changed today on the dryer and our clothes were not actually dry yet. Ugh..so I restarted the dryer and the wet clothes waited. Dishwasher started and B washed the last of the big stuff. Gemma wanted her hair in heatless curls and Then it was finally time for pajamas - Thank Goodness! and some time on the couch with B, my hot tea, and a book!

We finished watching the last 25 minutes of the Joplin tornado documentary and then we both knew if we stayed down there any longer we would fall asleep on the couch never to make it to bed. So we forced ourselves up and checked on all the kids one last time and then yay for heated blankets and nighttime.

A long busy day and tomorrow starts a full work week with soccer practices and baseball games and B's annual fishing trip. Sunday scaries for sure, but it was a good day and everyone was so generous and helpful. So very grateful for everyone who shows up for us everyday and in every way they can. thank you, love you, keep keeping on!

A Day in the Life: November

5a
Kissed B goodbye as he headed off into the woods on the first day of rifle season. I was snug as a bug in a rug heated blanket, so I closed my eyes and went back to sleep for awhile.

7:00a-8:30a
I got up and dressed for the day, got the bed made and sorted through one hamper worth of clean clothes until I was in real need of a warm drink to start the day.

I drank two cups of coffee, made some Christmas gift purchases and added a few things to my Amazon cart that I am considering. I peeked in on Grey around 8a to make sure he was moving around.

I did some morning prep work: emptied the dishwasher, got the laundry started, and cleared off the kitchen counters and kitchen table.

Then, I remembered with a flash of panic that it was 11/30 and our elf was due to arrive today! I took the necessary steps for that.

8:45a -9:00a
Time for Grey to go to basketball practice, so we bundled up and shivered our way to the school.

After dropping him off, I stopped at Dollar General to pick up milk, candy canes, and marshmallows (for hot chocolates today!) I also got some candy that I will pack away for St Nicholas day shoes on 12/06!

9:00a - 11:25a
Back at home and 4 kids awake and had already found Marco in his 'charging box' hanging on the front door! Happy kids and Marco already got a lot of snuggles (and has been fought over several times)

I sat for a little while with my coffee, my planner, and my Holly Jolly calendar to get myself focused and organized while the kids played in the living room.

Morning chores: emptying the dishwasher, starting the laundry cycle, feeding and cleaning Queen Barb's cage, Breakfast making/ serving / cleaning up, feeding Bullet. All four wanted hot chocolates, so they had a little drink date around the kitchen table giggling and getting sticky marshmallows and candy canes all over themselves and the table. yeesh.

Then it was more laundry sorting, saying Good morning to sleeping beauty (aka Gemma) who finally woke up and made herself eggs. She is a beauty inside and out though because she carried the Christmas tree down from the attic and set it all up by herself (bless her!)

11:30a - 12:30p
Time to pick up Grey from practice again and it's still flipping freezing outside (20 degrees and windy). He came out of practice pretty gassed (they had to run 17s today) but cheerful because his cousin Reid had texted to say he got a deer. He came home to shower while I started grilled cheese sammies and broccoli cheese soup (cheat bag mix from Progressive).

Pappy arrived to take Grey to the woods with the rest of the cousins and uncles. I got everyone fed and Grey was bundled all the way up and I kissed him goodbye - I won't see him again until dark now.

12:30p - 2p
Not a great day for technology in our house...I sat on support chat with Samsung for 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get our brand new (yesterday!!) tv to stop giving the error message "Smart Hub is updating. Please try again later" with no luck.

Rusty and Violet did the farm animals (let chickens out, feed chickens, collect eggs, warm water to the goats, Osa, and the chickens, feed Osa). They came up frozen popsicles because despite me telling them several times to dress properly - you know they just threw on random shoes and unzipped coats and no gloves (!??!) and just got it over with. Ugh. thankful they did it, but always a production over here, I swear.

I took a break from tech annoyance and separated the Christmas tree branches while Olive played with the dollhouse, Violet finished assembling our Lego version of a Nativity set, and the rest of the kids watched Cinderella (the musical / Camila Cabello version) in the den.

I got a call from B that he shot a buck and was tracking it down!

Violet's new curl products arrived today so she hopped in the shower and then she and I tried them out to see if we can figure her hair texture out. We watched a couple videos to figure out the order and the hand motions and I was happy to get some one-on-one time with just her laughing about the whole process.

Then, I was trying to carry too many things up the steps and I dropped my phone on the tile floor face plate down (?!) and the screen went black. Still vibrating and pinging, but can't see anything. COME.ON.

photo cred: B!

2p - 5p
I curled Gemma's hair in the heatless curl wrap and got Olive snuggled up for a nap. Then switched the laundry again and talked Violet through disappointment that her hair wasn't giant curls like the girls in the videos (it was our first time trying it, we can try again using different order or method, you probably need to try more than once - this is not a scenario that requires tears or frustration - we are just trying something new and it didn't go like we hoped. No big deal).

Tried restarting my blacked out phone (no luck), so I emailed Brandon to let him know my phone was not a textable option and he'd have to email me.

Tried out resetting the network on the tv to see if that would work and I got a new error message of crazy coding. I typed that into google but it didn't help so I sat  on support chat again with the Samsung people to see if the TV can get working again. While I waited for my turn (I started out as 22nd person in line). I did some blogging, trashed email, checked the hours for our local cell phone repair man. Violet and I got started on stuffing and addressing Christmas cards until it was finally my turn in line.

After a lot of back and forth through support chat and trying a million different things, I got a download of an updated version that I needed to save to a USB drive (?! had to go find that, but couldn't, but I did find an external hard drive so that worked) downloaded the software update, unzipped it, saved it to the drive, hooked the drive up to the tv, ran it for updates, and....nothing. oh man, so disappointing and frustrating.

5p - 5:45p
Started dinner, we had baked ravioli tonight, but I snacked on leftover shrimp from Thanksgiving appetizer (thanks Uch & Kev!) While I started dinner, I also loaded up the dishwasher and started a quick wash. Violet continued stuffing Christmas card envelopes and the other three kids played hide and seek with Marco too!

Gemma got picked up by Peyton to go see Wicked! I sent Peyty off with her family's Christmas card to save on postage (hah) Thanks for taking Gemma Lasure family!

5:45p - 7:45p
The fellas returned from the woods with three deer! Daddy got a 7 point, Grey shot a spike, and cousin Reid snagged a doe. All the camo'ed boys got to work setting up the garage to be the skinning and butcher shop over the next few days. Uncle Ray, Pappy, B, Grey, Cousin Ray, Reid, and Rowan worked while me and the kids peeked in on them (but honestly, it's too cold down there for us, hah!)

While the boys were working away in the garage, I finished dinner and switched the laundry again. A new 3 loads awaited to be sorted so I quickly sorted and put away clothes from that.

Violet took orders from the workshop fellas (3 coffees, 2 hot chocolates, and 2 raviolis). The little kids ate and I reheated my fourth cup of coffee (don't judge me, hahah). While the kids were eating, I made a double batch of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.

7:45p - 8:30p
I got to hang out with Grey, B, and Pappy listening to their day of hunting stories and finishing the cookies. Grey and B got showers so they could go get wings at the Tollgate with the Gilmore cousins which is an annual tradition after the first day of rifle.

I cleaned up the kitchen and talked the littlest two into staying home with me instead of going for wings (because no way would they be pleasant at that hour). So I promised them watching The Grinch in my bed together which was a good deal for them.

Grey took warm water down to the goats and Osa, B cleaned out the cast iron skillet, and Pappy was subjected to hearing about our "Christmas socks" from Olive (aka stockings, hah).

I sat and read in the chair that holds the oven door totally shut so the cookies could finish (lol, big families get it). I was interrupted a million times obviously, but it was nice to get in a few pages in the moments between kids coming in to take cookies and ramble on about random thoughts in their mind.

8:30p - 9:15p
B, Grey, Violet, and Rusty all went to Tollgate for wings with the Gilmore cousins. Gem was still at at the movies. I got the cookies all finished and packed up and then took Red and Olive up to my room to watch the Grinch. And honest to goodness - no joke on technological difficulties today because our Roku remote was not pairing and usually when that happens we just use my phone as the remote...but my phone is black screen!? Laugh so you don't cry.

But we are problem solvers around here, so I pulled up the Grinch on the laptop instead and the kids were good with that while the three of us snuggled up and they watched the Grinch and I honestly tried to keep my eyes open, but LOL, couldn't.

9:15p - 10p
Gemma got home from Wicked and we had a whole debrief about it in the kitchen. (She loved it) and we talked about her favorite parts and although I haven't seen it, I did read the book (probably 20-some years ago now) so I mentioned parts that I remembered about the book too. Then she played a few of the songs on Echo for me to listen to them while she sang and danced around the kitchen until we both decided enough show tunes for the night and it was time to get into bed.

10p-10:15p
I went back upstairs and since Reddy was zonked out in our bed, I moved him to his own bed. Olive was still awake because she is a little night owl (like Rusty!) and I just laid down next to her still tossing and turning. I gave her a little hand massage and squeezed her arms and legs in some medium pressure (that always helps her relax) and then I drifted off to sleep myself.

10:15p
B woke me back up for a kiss goodnight when everyone got home from Tollgate wings but then immediately falling back asleep like the granny that I am.

*any photos taken after my phone broke are from B's phone that I borrowed after he got home from hunting just for this post! hahaha, dedication!
