I don't weigh the suggested 115 lbs that a 5'4'' woman is supposed to weigh. surprised? I highly doubt that if you've ever seen my booty in person. for reals. But I don't want to weigh 115 lbs (nor have I weighed that much since the eighth grade), but I actually love that my round butt has no trouble filling out jeans and that when Grey snuggles up with me I act more like a pillow than a piece of plywood. If I'm being honest (which talking about weight usually is) I'm also not fully comfortable with the amount of extra meat that motherhood has distracted me from trying to get rid of - so the month of May is going to be a push towards more healthy living in our family; not any crash diets or maniacal exercise plans - just better choices.
Hello, My name is Tabitha and I'm a snacker [hello, Tabitha]. There's no way around it, I love snacking all day and would prefer to do this over big meals everyday of the week. Plus, snacking kind of suits motherhood as I don't usually have time to sit down to an actual meal between the feeding, diapering, playing, and working part of my days. So, I'm coming to terms with my snacking problem and confronting them head on. I accept the fact that I can't (with any long term success) eliminate snacks from my life; but they certainly can be healthier snacks...which is what my month is going to be all about.
I also want to make more of an effort to move my body more each day. It already feels like I do a little moving already (mainly: bend over, secure 23 lb baby, bend knees, lift said child, carry around on hip), but I want it to be deliberate movement. More playing outside (yay warm weather!), more walking/playing with Bullet, more mum&grey dance parties.
And now that Grey is a full on human food eater (including whole milk - hooray!), it is easier than ever to eat better. Somehow it seems more important to me that good stuff is going into his tiny, new, not already filled with processed grossness, than my own, used up, eating junk my whole life body. So if I'm making healthy food for him, its easy to just make enough for the both of us. Thank you, Grey!
Anyone want to join in? Its a no rules, do it your way kind of month. You can do any wackadoo crash diet*, or commit to running marathon style, or just promise to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day, or just forgo your bedtime snack. I need encouragement so join in and let's cheer for each other:) Good luck!
*We, at Team Studer, do not support or condone any crash diet, exercise plan, or eating disorder that causes harm to your body. being skinny is NOT the point. being comfortable in your own skin is.

Mom's night off update
Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Mom's night off is still holding strong, thank goodness. Game night is a hit or miss these days, so is cleaning day (hah), but Mom and Dad's night off are holding the line. (We qualify wine during dinner as date night around these parts).
Momma's night off has included:
1. baby free grocery shopping trips...last night I passed up a chance to skip another grocery store customer with a cart and half full of groceries even though I had four items. I said, No seriously, standing here staring at gossip magazines is my mom-free time...take your time, dude, I got all night.
2. meeting up with mom friend, JP at Claytopia and painting, gossiping, and laughing our way to new pottery accessories. We both agreed that using our brains for something wholly creative was invigorating and we need to do it more often. Thank you to Groupon for making the trip almost FREE!
3. catching up on the phone with friends I haven't seen or talked to in far too long (shout out to Taryn & Karpy for making my mom's night off a ultra girly squealing and reminiscing fest)
4. Enjoying meals cooked by my husband and then cleaned up by my husband. double score!
5. BONUS: some of my favorite shows are on Tuesday nights: Glee, Raising Hope, AND Parenthood
Tuesdays are the best:)

Re-arrange and Re-new
Thursday, February 24, 2011
As part of our minimalism resolution, I've been going on serious room re-arranging madness of of recently. This is not a new trait of mine, just ask Brandon's college roommates...his roommate Kevin is actually quoted in our wedding scrapbook as saying, "Tab was always coming to visit and re-arranging the living room furniture. It was nice." hahhha. Its like an immediate and free facelift when you re-arrange furniture in a room and give it a new perspective. And although re-arranging furniture does not, at first glance, seem like an act of minimalism...the act of re-arranging forced us to get rid of some stuff...so through the hoop and under the bridge...it was. so there.
I started in our bedroom, I actually randomly started moving the night stands one Saturday morning and yelled into Brandon in the other room, honey, I'm doing something irrational right now...so either come help me or talk me out of it. He got a look at what I was doing and decided it was better to join in than fight me on it. So we took apart our huge bed and dressers and played musical furniture all afternoon. Since we were moving things all around, we couldn't just continue to turn a blind eye to all the dust that was icing the dressers...or all the papers and clutter covering the desk. So we started throwing things out and putting stuff in junk piles.
After 3 hours, we had a new, clean room with considerably less clutter.
Then a few days later, I got another re-arrange itch and started on the baby's room. Through the process of moving things around, I took stock of all the clothes that he has outgrown but still took up space in his room. They've now been packed up in the storage room and are awaiting the next boy kid we might be lucky to get in the future. Now he's got a lot more floor space to play around on and we were even able to move some toys that had been littering the living room back into his room. Greyson gives it a thumbs up - he loves it now.

NYR: stress
Wednesday, January 5, 2011
So as mentioned earlier, our new years resolution is to shrink down or in the more modern and increasingly popular way to phrase it: minimize. Yes sir, the studers are going minimalist. But this does not mean that our house is going to be white-walled with one piece of furniture and a vase of long stemmed calla lillies in it. Um, have you not seen pictures of a my horse of a dog? But we are taking the ideals behind minimalist living and pushing that throughout all aspects of our life.
From here on out, this will be called "NYR" as in, New Years Resolution. Please don't expect me to type that entire paragraph everytime I talk about our minimalistic efforts. hah, minimalistic.
So, first business of order in the NYR is to minimize stress...mainly mine. I may look like a totally put together human (can you hear my sisters and husband laughing hysterically right now?) but I have been a little maniacal for the past few months. Let's step back a moment, My name is Tabitha and I'm a give-aholic. Not like I'm bragging about being generous, I seriously have a problem here. I can't tell when enough giving is enough. I was entirely capable of giving time/energy/love/interest/effort to myself AND my husband not so long ago. But now that we have added to this family, the myself part has fallen out of the equation at an exponentially growing rate and with my over-giving issue, I just stood on the sidelines and watched myself disappear...So after multiple breakdowns over the past nine months, my hubs and I finally saw the light on how to fix this situation so that I can get a little balance in my life. Clearly, the only thing that this give-aholic loves more than giving is a list. Well, a schedule actually. And we've put it into place this week.
We've discussed what kind of a magic each of the nights might hold:
For now game night consists of B and I playing scrabble or the wii since Grey is too little to appreciate anything that requires not throwing or biting things. (This week, we didn't remember about the game night until we were already in bed, so we had a rock, paper, scissors battle royalle...i lost).
Mum's night off could be mean reading, writing (more to come about that), or meeting up with mom friends for some cocktails (how satc of me!)
Dad's night off will allow B some uninterrupted tinkering in the garage, espn zombie time, or some wings&brews with our cousins.
Date night doesn't mean actually going on a date always (who can afford a babysitter every thursday of the year?!) but maybe some wine with dinner but mostly just an attempt to put some romance back into our lives (I think this includes me making an attempt at having washed hair and perfume...that'll be nice for a change).
And on Friday; having an evening set aside that we both are committed to cleaning up the place - ahhmazing.
And maybe I'm a total loser, but on the first ever Mumma's night off, I had the best time running errands all by myself. You'll hear more about my trip to the bookstore in an upcoming post, but I also made a stop at Target and the grocery store. While I was on my way back to the house, I called B just to say, "I love Tuesdays." Until you have a child, you have no idea that freedom is going to the grocery store alone.

New Years Resolution Anticipation
Saturday, December 11, 2010
Some people may dread the new year for its persistent nagging for making a resolution or for its annoying tendency to have you initial all of your checks after you correct your date for the first few days...but i love me so new year. I love the idea that you get a fresh start. I love the new years eve party, duh. I love scribbling in all my favorite dates, plans, and birthdays in a clean, fresh calendar. And I love, love new years' resolutions. Just because I love them, does not guarantee that I can hold on to them all year long - but you can bet your bottom dollar that I give it a good go. If you know anything about me, know that I am a girl that loves making lists. And there is no greater list than the new year's resolution list:)
2011 is going to be all about the shrinking down. Yes, I am going to be making a serious attempt at shrinking myself down (isn't that the most likely new years resolution of all time?) but more importantly, we are going to be shrinking down all of our STUFF. How is it possible that in the 2.5 years that we have been married we have got all this STUFF lying around. I am so excited about this, I started working on my The Year of the Shrinking Studers effort a little early...
I have somewhat of a book buying (&hoarding) problem. It is justified in the fact that I actually read them, however, there really isn't ANY reason that I have so many books piling up all over the house. Plus, I quite honestly should not be allowed in a bookstore unsupervised. I know, the environment, Tabitha! For goodness sakes, move to a flipping e-reader already!? But I just can't, it's not just the stories and the writing that I love, but the actual book in my hand; turning the pages; dog-earing the page and coming back to it later to re-read some beautiful quotation. So I just can't make the tech switch - however, I do understand that I have a buying/hoarding problem..and the first step is admittance right?
Update: Within a week, I had 6 of my books requested! Off they went; postage costing less than the a new book purchases and I will have 6 credits to go towards books of my choice. oh happy day!
