Intentional Outdoor Hours: 142+ hours (of 1000)
The rain chose violence this week (hah) and we had multiple days of games cancelled this week. The gloomy weather has all of us gaslit into thinking we are not at the end of the school year. I want the sunshine, but not going to lie - the students all seem weirdly calmer because the summer sun is not shining through the classroom windows and calling out to them. So I guess fair trade off for this time of year? Also, everything is rainforest-green outside so yay for that too.
Reading Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner and I also finished The Neurodiverse Classroom by Victoria Honeybourne and we had our last school book club meeting for it.
Listening to and finishing I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman. Wild. It is for my teacher book club and I can't wait to write up my notes to share with the group on this book!
End of year Sunday school party! The kids enjoyed a fun eoy party at church and I am so grateful that we have such an incredible group of volunteers that organize so much fun and good-deed doing activities for the kids each year. (thank you Sunday school teachers and youth leaders!) I also randomly (finally) set up my online gift giving to our church which is # 14 on my 100 Small Things List!
1 year of missing Gigi. A whole year and it feels impossible that we have made it the entire way through the calendar once without you Gigi. Everyone is doing already and getting by and we can feel your love all around us in all we do. Your oak tree is growing buds, your windchime jingles music around our house, and we talk about you and laugh over memories and make food that reminds us of you. A part of us will always ache a little bit because you loved us so well. xxo miss you Gigi.
Celebrating my baby sis Uch's birthday at my parents house for lunch. Kev (aka Uncle Drip) organized all the food and we even had a birthday note / polka circle at the end of the party which Uchie loved. All the cousins ran around cuckoo and so much good food and fun. Happiest birthday to my littlest sis (really my first baby - hah. love you Uchie #uchisthebest)
Wishing our baby girl Olive a happy 4th birthday! She got to take mini donuts to preschool for her snack and then we hosted a Gabby's dollhouse party at our house for family and friends on Saturday. The weather held out and the kids were able to play outside and everyone pitched in with food and fun. We had sloppy joes, buffalo chicken dip, and Gabby cat cupcakes! Abba brought pasta salad, Ms Heather sent fruit and juice bags, and Mimi made her famous no bakes and spaghetti. Thank you to all who helped celebrate our sweet and sassy Loopy!
PreK Move Up day for Red & Olive! B and I accompanied the kids to Maple Ridge to meet the teachers, make a little craft, and get some playtime in. It was nice to visit the classroom and get to meet the teachers. Red and Olive will both attend PreK at Maple Ridge next year (my school) and then move into Kindergarten at CT the following year - staying together (Red will be 6 and Olive will be 5 for Kinder). We held Rusty for kindergarten and I am still grateful to have given him that one extra year of growing and maturing before the desk-sitting era. I am happy that Red and Olive will go through the years together and no one will be the last one left at home.
Happy for Violet's field trips: this week her 4th grade class got to attend the high school's BizWorld assembly and shop and on Wednesday her grade went to Lincoln Caverns! Violet and Rusty this week also took the bus from school straight to Abba and Chum's house one day this week. They were so happy to spend the afternoon there and then head to the soccer fields for their games - a little midweek grandparent boost!
Turkey hunting for Grey and Pappy and Pap got a bird!
Rest in Peace to Queen Barb, our sweet guinea pig. Almost exactly on her fifth birthday (just like Toffee!) When I was taking her to the outside cage one morning, I noticed that she looked a little 'old' around her eyes and I gave her some extra snuggles. We have loved you Queen Barb, enjoy guinea pig heaven sweet one.
Teaching in the last two and a half weeks of school and everyone trying to hold it together. At the elementary school we reviewed family vocab words and then started watching Encanto because we are down to the point in the school year where there are constant interruptions in events, assemblies, and special days - I'm not even seeing some of my classes regularly anymore. We are coasting now down there. Spanish Expo worked on their country infographs and studied for their map test. Spanish 1 is split into two levels from missing four classes of one period due to state testing last week. Pd 7 finished Tumba, took the final book test, and participated in a speaking activity. Pd 8 worked on finishing Tumba and taking the final book test. Spanish 2 is hustling to finish their novel (Robo en la noche) and everyone is super focused to try to get it done.
Sporting with lots of cancellations due to rain, but Rusty got one 10U AYSO game in and Violet was able to play in one 12U AYSO game and one Sparks game. Gemma played one 14U AYSO soccer game and one Gators soccer game. Grey had two Varsity baseball practices and the D5 semi-final baseball game and a Chaos AAU basketball tourney. Gem helped me get the 5U fields painted up for our week of duty. Brandon attended the CT Sports Awards ceremony to hand out the awards for Varsity Football.
Making homemade stromboli (Olive's birthday dinner request) grilled chicken and fried rice (B on the blackstone!), Copycat Olive Garden chicken pasta, kielbasa and pierogies, Pioneer Woman skillet lasagna, sloppy joes & buffalo chicken dip (for the birthday party). For desserts, I made peanut butter powerballs (Olive's birthday dessert request) and Gabby Cat cupcakes for Olive's birthday party.
