a glimpse into what it is like to live in our home just this moment.

Intentional Outdoor Hours: 337+ hours (of 1000)
Up 53 hours this week which I can feel in my soul too because outside in the wide open space with the fresh air does something good for my well being - honestly. I'm up so many hours in large part because we went camping this weekend, so even my sleeping went into outdoor time if I'm snoozing in a tent; especially when it's a two man tent and we have two adults and two kids puzzle pieced in it - ya feel me. hah. It was a totally hectic week but much of it was outside and that made all the difference to being able to not only manage it but ENJOY it!

Reading We Got This by Cornelious Minor with the Book Love Foundation Summer club and starting Miles Morales Spiderman by Jason Reynolds.

Experiencing a wildlife encounter. On our dog walk in the morning around the cornfield, everything was going normal when both dogs and I stopped dead in our tracks at a sound I had never before in my life heard. My brain started doing the 'ole Rolodex spinning trying to look for prior knowledge at what this sound could possibly be. It landed on feral child (?!) or injured cow (?!). After the first growl that stunned us, the dogs started sniffing and pulling on the leashes and I was worried that whatever was in the weeds was going to come out and want to fight the pups. Luckily, after three warning growls, I heard it retreat deeper into the woods. We got back to the house and I searched 'warning growl of a bobcat' and yep, that's what it was exactly. I think maybe it's a momma with some babies, because the message was very clear, "get away from here." So, we are steering clear of the cornfield for a few weeks to give her some space.

Swimming. alot. At Gigi & Pappy's pool, at Sleeks pool, at fishing camp for an afternoon, at the Quemahoming dam while camping. These kids are fish and I am feeling pretty guilty about counting a swim as a bath because honestly, they might be getting one legit bath/shower a week right now. #momgoals, I know. Violet has been doing great and we are still operating under a very strict floaties on in the deep end rule. Rust has even been trying out his swimming sans floaties as long as a grown up is in the water with him. He is a maniac and wants to swim underwater constantly; he just needs to get better at longer breath holding and he will be on his way!

Teaching Violet to ride a bike without training wheels. I literally gave her one push and she can balance perfectly, as long as she's going straight. We still have some work to do on steering/turning, but she has been the easiest kid so far!

Switching out all the girls clothes and sizes and I'm done! both boys and girls clothes are all sorted and cleared out of the attic - yay for me! I have been delivering totes and bags to friends and family who are in line for handmedowns from the Studer kids and it makes me feel like the most accomplished girl in the world.

Celebrating July 4th with family. We enjoyed Clam Casino and other delicious treats at Uch and Kevin's house on Independence Day eve. She made buffalo baked cauliflower, artichoke dip with veggies, and bacon skewers for us Keto guests like the most thoughtful girl that she is (all delicious!) We sang Happy Birthday to USA with sparklers in our breakfast on the 4th and then headed to Kuma & Buck's house for dinner of grill food and swimming that night with cousins. No one loves sparklers more than Rust Man and all four kids are obsessed with the tiny gunpowder poppers. #Lawdhelpme

Camping out at the Quemahoming with our cousins. We headed out midday to set up our site with our limited camping supplies. In case you don't know, I hate camping. hah. It's the bugs and the dampness and the not-having-the-things-I-need-where-they-should-be that makes camping not my favorite. But, the kids, man; always getting me to do stuff I don't love and then ending up not hating it. #thatmomlife We took our two handmedown two-man tents (thank you Aunt Dar!), kayaks, and then figured it out. Between the rain, and the back and forth between our other commitments (baseball, family reunion) - you'd think it wasn't a great time, but you'd be wrong! It was all the outdoor, fresh air, cousin laughing, swimming, kayaking, fire smell on all our clothes, muddy feet therapy that we all didn't know we needed.

Enjoying time with family at our Uzelac family reunion (the 51st!) We spent the day at Solomon Run Fire hall with our Uzelac family (my mom's mom's side). My grandma was one of 14, so we have a big family and seeing the reunion through my own kids' eyes has brought such renewed appreciation for getting together with extended family. It was a beautiful and meaningful day and I'm always grateful to be there to represent my gram's legacy. (miss you everyday, Gram).

Summer sporting with Roxbury volleyball (3 wins, 3 losses this week) and all-star sanction Little League games. Grey had practices earlier in the week and then a game on Friday night in which they lost against Hollidaysburg, which then sent them out to Huntingdon (1.5hrs away) for another game on Saturday. They lost again which kicked them out of the Little League tourney (bummer) but we have lots of all-star LOCAL (praise!) baseball tournaments coming in the next few weeks yet. In other baseball mom news, I spent 5 more hours in the concession stand this week between the CT tournament and the 12U Sanction team game.

Making taco meat (concession stand), buffalo chicken dip (Uch's party), chocolate chip cookies and snack necklaces (camp), a roaster of chicken nuggets and Mac&Cheese and a batch of chocolate chip walnut cookies and more snack necklaces (fam reunion) Brandon and I celebrated a whole month of Keto with pizza for dinner on Sunday night and it was....just meh. I mean, the cheese, banana peppers, and ham were delicious - but I can eat all that on Keto anyway, so the crust wasn't really doing all much for me (!!?!!?!)

Keto'ing and trying chia seeds on my yogurt (yum) and making keto mug bread for the first time (thanks for the rec Kitty!) Brandon made incredibly delicious baked tilapia with homemade 'salsa' of peppers, cucumbers, and avocado on top with a side of buttery brussel sprouts; I could have died and gone to heaven. He also made some delightful Zaluski (Zuchinni noodle haluski - hah!) I made a batch of Keto bagels and some more peanut butter fat bombs again. We tried egg loaf (aka keto french toast) for breakfast, but I wasn't crazy about it - Violet ate several pieces though, hah! We meant to try intermittent fasting this week, but with late volleyball and baseball games - we didn't eat dinner until after 8p each night! We tried Blue Diamond's Salt & Vinegar almonds and I kid you not, new favorite snack EVER (2 net carbs). We also had Smirnoff's Sparkling Seltzer at camp and they were great (1 net carb)Big Non-Scale Victory this week: when I couldn't find my shirt for Grey's baseball team, I just put his regular season jersey on instead and it fit! He almost fell over laughing about how I fit in his shirt (I don't know if he was more impressed with me or impressed that he's getting big enough that I can steal his clothes).

Thank you June

Thank you June for...
  • the peace and soul healing that comes with over 126 hours of outdoor time in this month alone
  • our RustMan's third birthday, who is really coming into his personality and has us all belly laughing every day and feeling like the luckiest people on Earth when we get one of his hugs around the neck
  • a month long challenge to try Keto for Brandon and I that had us preparing new recipes, trying new foods, really savoring each bite, and feeling better and more satisfied
  • the end of the school year for our two biggest kids who finished up third and first grade
  • the long mornings of quiet that I get thanks to #nobedtimesummer. They've been filled with early morning chores, peaceful cups of coffee, reading on the porch, blogging, family yearbook creating, or organizing in my planner. These long, slow, quiet mornings have soothed my fractured soul more than anything else.
  • the bittersweet end of spring sports for our kiddos that taught them so much and introduced them to new friends
  • the deepest breath of gratitude after a very scary moment with Violet in the pool
  • a full day picnic at Greenhouse park with our family and friends
  • an early morning, tranquil kayak trip with my Dad and little sister in the light rain
  • the freedom of summer to be spontaneous in the afternoons with our time
  • delicious, fresh, juicy strawberries picked straight from the plant
  • confirming the necessary steps to finalize my PA teaching certification; even if it was not the answer I wanted
  • a successful shoulder surgery for my Dad
  • a fun and much belated birthday party for our Grey at fishing camp with his buddies and little brother
  • inspiring discussion board posts as I read along with other teachers in the Book Love Summer book club
  • my new teacher planner already purchased and waiting in my new teacher bag
  • our rooster who found his voice this month and crows the day awake each morning
  • so many reasons to celebrate: graduation parties, birthdays, a pool party at a friend's house, and Juneteenth
  • so many laughs and high fives at our volleyball games with these teammates we love so much, including two of my students who make me so proud each week
  • another inspiring quarterly board meeting with You in Flood City
  • the start of Grey's all star sanction little league baseball season and an incredible win in their first game after three extra innings at 10p at night.
  • looking out the kitchen window and watching the kids on the trampoline, the dogs enjoying the shade under them, and the chickens strutting all over the backyard

A peek into what it is like to live in our home just this moment.

Intentional Hours Outdoors: 284+ hours (of 1000)
Up 31 hours this week but truthfully didn't push myself very hard for most of the week - I want to do better and get to 40 hours! Between baseball game concession stand duty (I count that as outdoors!) and Grey's game, I had a 10+ hour day outside on Saturday alone (hah!) We built a fire one night this week (heals my soul), and we spent some afternoons outside enjoying the weather, reading, swimming, and mowing.

Reading We Got This by Cornelius Minor with the Book Love Foundation Summer Club. I got my highlighter and post-its out like a true teacher nerd and I'm making all kinds of notations along the way. It really has me excited and inspired for next school year  (did I mention I already bought my teacher happy planner for the upcoming school year! hah!) They had a facebook live interview with the author on the book club discussion board and it was like true (amazing) professional development for a half hour!

Visiting with our favorites to kick off our Fioder Crew No Bummer Summer! We spent the day at our friends Sophia & Charlie's new house. They have a great pool and waterslide and the kids had so much fun. We have a lot of things on our No Bummer Summer list (including drive in movies, minor league baseball games, and blueberry picking!) and this was the perfect lowkey kick off!

Holding on to my title as second tallest person in our family for as long as I can. Grey had his well check this week and he's 4'6"; steadily creeping up on my 5'3" like it ain't not thang.

Enjoying the company of Grey's friend/teammate who spent the afternoon at our house. He has a working mom and we got to talking at a party the other week about how he hangs out with his older sister and is mostly stuck in the house during the day and I was all like....um, do you know I want to RENT a child to play with Grey during the summer months!? Grey's energy and intensity makes our whole family exhausted and he just needs another boy his age to go nonstop with. It was amazing to have Braedon here all afternoon so that they could just play together. Hopefully this will become a weekly event! I love when the universe aligns to bring about mutually beneficial serendipity!

Having an afternoon to myself while all four kids went to Living Treasures Zoo with Gigi and Pappy. They had so much fun and I got to get laundry done, change all the bedsheets, and even watched a Netflix movie all by myself (Someone Great - very cute and made me miss my best friends so much! love you Kate & Karp!)

Brainstorming at the You in Flood City board meeting with beautiful and creative minds that are going to make this community a better place!

Experiencing a 'small world' bizarre moment. I am so much more of a Amazon Prime spender and I never check Craigslist or Fbook Marketplace which is terrible money wasting -but luckily my Dad is like a deal sleuth on the internet. So he sent me a link to life jackets that we are in the market for on fbook marketplace. Here, when I agree to buy them and pick them up somewhere in and around our town (ya know, it's all general locations online) - lo and behold it is a woman who lives IN our neighborhood! hahahaah! I was cracking up about it. So now everyone has life jackets AND I got to meet a new neighbor!

Seriously discussing a big home renovation project. B and I have been thinking about and daydreaming a major reno for the downstairs (including blowing the outside walls in our dining room and kitchen to make a great room that includes the side patio AND converting our current living room into a master bedroom for us) which is a huge (and costly) project. We've talked to family, pinned ideas on pinterest, and drew up cartoonish plans of big dreams. We love our yard and our space so much - the house is not my favorite because it's so walled up and disconnected, but we would never move away from this beautiful location. So we're trying to think big and creative (Chip & Joanna, we need you! hah). B took the first real step this week and had a little chat with the bank people to see what we even would do first if we were really going to do this. It seems terrifying, but if this place is going to be forever, then we want our kids to have memories of being kids in the same space that it will look like when they visit as adults. Wah, I don't know. It's exciting and scary.

Sorting all the boys clothes in the attic; such a task but feels so good to get it done. I pulled every box of boys clothes (all the sizes) down from the attic and went through every piece of clothing and sorted it. I switched out Grey and Rusty's clothes from their dressers and closets that no longer fit (or that they never wear) and put in new and correct sizes. Then I hugged and kissed too small clothes goodbye and four containers going out to friends with younger boys. I also put together the clothes that are right between my boys to send to their cousin Benny who gets them after Grey and sends them back to us for Rust (best handmedown exchange ever!)

Summer sporting with Roxbury volleyball game at 9p (!so late! thanks for babysitting Ariel!) and having so much fun playing with two of my students. We had six players; the first time all season; and we cranked out three wins. Grey had his first summer tournament with his all-star team and they tried to get in the groove with each other, but unfortunately lost both first games (knocking them out of the tournament). On Saturday evening, B and I traveled to Hollidaysburg for Grey's first actual Little League sanction game while my parents watched the other three kids (thank you so so much!) After a rain delay, and being down 0-8 in the fourth inning, our boys refused to give up and came back to win the game in the ninth inning (3 extra innings & 4 hours of baseball!) with 12-11. It was honestly the craziest game I've ever seen and felt like I was going to throw up and faint multiple times. B kept saying, "we have so many years of sports left with the kids - I don't think my ticker is going to make it!" The team did incredible - both teams did!!- and the boys were so excited and proud. They really proved to all us that you don't ever ever give up. There were a few moments in there that I was mentally preparing my post-game chat after a loss on the ride home; it was really looking grim and we had some tight scares (2 outs, down 1 run, and no one on base in the 9th inning!) but they didn't give up and they did it - all working together and being there for each other when they needed it. #sportsaremorethansports

Making popcorn chicken and fries, cheesy chicken and rice, hot dogs, and lots of ham & cheese sandwiches with mayo or ketchup for the kids. I also made haluski and taco meat for the baseball tournament concession stand. We had yummy keto food too including amazing grilled kabobs at Gigi & Pappy's house, grilled pork loin & asapargus, chicken-broccolli-bacon casserole, keto korean beef and broccolli over cauliflower rice, chicken quesadillas with a cheese 'tortilla,' and my favorite breakfast - Keto bagel topped with avocado, feta cheese, and sunflower seeds.

Keto'ing and down another 2.4lbs which makes it a total of 8.2lbs down for the month of June! B is down 15.6 lbs this month! We started out committing to just one month of Keto, but we are feeling so good and energized that B and I have decided to do another month! And we're going to incorporate intermittent fasting this time. It is kind of easy to already do intermittent fasting by accident while doing Keto because you don't feel hungry and sluggish constantly, but we are going to get more serious about it. Weirdly looking forward to another month!
